Hanson Acquires Alex Fraser

On January 31, Hanson acquired Alex Fraser – an industry leader in recycled construction materials and asphalt.

Established in 1879, Alex Fraser has a network of world-class facilities in Melbourne and Brisbane. It recycles more than 3.5 million tonnes of waste concrete, brick, and asphalt into quality civil engineering materials every year. Alex Fraser Asphalt produces more than 450,000 tonnes and paves more than 1,000 kilometres of road annually.

Like Hanson, Alex Fraser is committed to keeping its people safe. Their work towards improving safety is centred on managing critical risk areas such as traffic management, guarding, isolation, and contractor management. Alex Fraser’s strategic objectives are to achieve excellence in customer service, productivity and innovation, which align well with Hanson’s own objectives.

The acquisition is consistent with Hanson’s strategy to continue growth in aligned industries, such as recycling and asphalt. Hanson CEO Phil Schacht said he believed it was important for Alex Fraser to retain its brand and continue to operate as a stand-alone business.

We’ve been impressed by Alex Fraser’s unique sustainability offering, innovation, and organisational culture, and we look forward to working together to harness these strengths and increase the company’s footprint.

On February 1, the leadership teams hit the road to spend two days talking with Alex Fraser’s people, visiting every site to share the news and work though their questions, ideas and opportunities.

Alex Fraser Managing Director Peter Murphy said it was exciting for everyone at Alex Fraser to learn that they had become part of one of the most respected companies in our industry. “There’s a real buzz in the air at Alex Fraser, as our teams prepare for an exciting year ahead,” said Peter.
