- 7.5-kilometre highway located in the Southern End of the Gold Coast, taking traffic to the west of the Gold Coast Airport and connecting to both Currumbin and the Tweed Heads Bypass.
- Hanson supplied 160,000m3 for the project, primarily to build its roads and bridges.
- This included 40,000m3 for the cut and cover rail and road tunnels under the extended GoldCoastAirport run-way.
- The project required an extensive level of service and logistical coordination. Hanson successfully met Abigroup’s stringent requirements for the cut and cover tunnel’s concrete to be supplied with a specified thickness of 1.5m3, in 1500m3 lots, at a delivery rate of up to 200m3 and placed using a combination of concrete pumps and conveyor belts.
- A project-manager was assigned full-time to the job-site to ensure a constant problem-solving resource for Abigroup, as were a total of thirty-five trucks from Hanson Queensland’s agitator fleet.
- The Tugun Bypass is valued at $543 million and expected to take fifty-five percent of traffic off the existing Gold Coast Highway by 2017.
