Hanson supplied 2,000 cubic metres of 40MPa ready mix concrete for Santos’s $120 million Patricia-Baleen Gas Plant extension project in Orbost, Victoria.

A significant issue was meeting Santos’s cement requirements for the project, as the Orbost plant’s thirty-tonne capacity was significantly less than the seventy-tonnes of cement required by Santos every day for the duration of the project.

Hanson used two cement tankers to overcome the production short-fall and deliver the additional loads.

Each was equipped with its own ‘donkey’ motor and compressor, which allowed the tankers to discharge cement without relying on a prime mover to pump the cement out.

The extension project now allows the plant to process gas from an off-shore facility owned by Nexus Energy.
