CLEM7 Tunnel, Brisbane Minimize

Customer: Leightons Contractors Baulderstone Hornibrook Bilfinger Berger Joint Venture (LBBJV)
Construction Sector: Infrastructure

  • $3 billion toll road project is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Queensland and includes two 4.8 kilometre underground tunnels linking the north with the south of Brisbane.
  • Hanson supplied 249,850 cubic metres of ready mix concrete between 2007 and 2009, often as part of a twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week delivery schedule.
  • Four trucks were permanently assigned to the CLEM7 site, with a further eleven trucks deployed to the tunnel’s road-header works from February 2009.
  • All concrete supplied for the project achieved vigorous standards for strength, toughness, permeability and fire-retardation, with temporary and permanent shotcrete products also developed.
  • The new tunnel will allow motorists to avoid up to twenty-three sets of traffic lights and shave up to thirty minutes off the cross-city journey.
