Customer: Cross City Motorway Consortium, including Baulderstone Hornibrook
Construction Segment: Infrastructure
-
This 2.1-kilometre tunnel stretches from Sydney’s Darling Harbour to Kings Cross/Paddington in the Eastern suburbs.
-
A large-scale project, it required seven tunnel boring machines, some 3.3 million worker hours and over 100,000 cubic metres of concrete from Hanson.
-
In close consultation with the tunnels designers and engineers, Hanson supplied various speciality mixes and a high-slump steel fibre shotcrete.
-
This meant the client avoided having to fix steel reinforcement to excavated areas before spraying.
-
$60,000 was spent fitting catalytic converters into 33 Hanson trucks due to construction taking place in temporarily ventilated tunnels.
-
A full-time project manager was on-site throughout the project, providing an immediate problem-solving resource.
